I wanted to demonstrate how much

I'd love to work at SIX12 in my own way.

This is my "cover letter" but on a webpage

so it's not as boring.

Hope you enjoy!

About Me

  1. Moved from Japan to Canada

I flew from Japan to Canada and fell in love with the city and people. Worked as a barista for a few years.

  2. Accounting to Software Development

I received my Accounting diploma from Langara College and worked as an accounting bookkeeper at Avalon Accounting where I met wonderful co-workers and clients. When I became a permanent regident of Canada in 2021, I decieded to focus on my dream to be a software developer.

  3. Started my career as a developer!

After I graduated from Lighthouse Labs, I have received an offer from Forge and Smith as a QA Specialist. Although I loved the people and my work at Forge and Smith, I decided to make a tough decision to take another offer from Traction Rec as a Product Developer following my passion for software development.

Satoe as a person

I love meeting new people and knowing about them because it always gives me a new perspective. As much as I love coding and problem solving, I have a strong desire to create software and online experiences that are both visually appealing and intuitive for users. I believe that design is as important as functionalities of a website. I also love collaborating and working in a team, and enjoy working towards a set goal with other people.
When I'm not coding, I'm most likely hiking with my dog (Yomi the border collie).

Projects

Salut - Cocktail recipe app. Main tech stacks are NextJS, MaterialUI, and Prisma. The app used Cocktail API as well as Goole Map API to show the location of nearby liquor stores. Users can login through either Facebook or Google account (NextAuth) and start updating their inventory and search for cocktail recipes based on their inventory. Users can also create their own recipes.

Ranker - Live Polling Full stack web application. jQuery and AJAX are used for front-end development, and Node.js and Express for back-end. Deployed on the cloud using Heroku. This app allows users to create a poll and share it with friends (emaIL, Facebook, Twitter). Users receive an email notification (Mailgun) when someone answers to the poll. Users can create an account and see all the poll history and results in their account.

Interview scheduling app - Built with React and Axios. Storybook was used for UI development and planning, and Jest and Cypress were used for unit/E2E testing. Deployed on the cloud using Netlify, CircleCI and Railway.

Simplified single-page Twitter clone - Project focused on Front-end development build with HTML, CSS (SCSS), JS, jQuery and AJAX.

But why should SIX12 hire me?

Experience

Having rocked it at Forge and Smith and Traction Rec, I've got the perfect blend of skills for the Full Stack React Developer spot at SIX12. Not only am I handy with frontend and backend tasks, but I've also got a knack for killer UX/UI and top-notch design.
My last personal project (Salut) was built with React and Next.JS.

Quickly adopt and learn

I pride myself on my ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies. (ex. I learned NextJS on my own and built my last project with it)
One of the things I love about Web Dev is that it's a never-ending learning journey and I am always looking for ways to expand my skills and knowledge in the field.

Collaboration

I believe that teamwork is key to achieving success, and I am committed to doing my part to contribute to the SIX12 team's efforts.
In my previous group project, I was able to communicate well with my teammates and help each other while also working independently.
